IJACSA - Standards and Importance of Impact Factors
The standards that any international journal of computer science journal uses to see publication will vary widely. Few journals, like Nature, Science, PNAS, and Physical Review Letters, are reputed to publish papers that mark an elementary breakthrough in their respective fields.
Impact factors show the importance of a journal. This can be done by calculating how many times, the selected articles are cited in recent years. Higher the impact factor, more highly ranked is the journal. It is one tool that can be used to compare the journals in a subject category. Though, the impact factors are useful, but they should not be the only consideration for judging a journal. In some countries, the journal rankings are also utilized for funding decisions and even for the analysis of individual researchers, though they’re poorly fitted to that purpose.
